Author Güray Süngü was the guest of our Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Münire Kevser Baş's "Yakın Dönem Türk Edebiyatı II" course on Wednesday, 31 May. A pleasant conversation was held on the author's novel Düş Kesiği, which was awarded the Oğuz Atay award in 2010. Responding to the students' questions about post-modern literature, Süngü made evaluations on the intellectual/philosophical roots, characteristics and future of post-modern literature.

Güray Süngü

He was born in 1976 in one of the walled neighborhoods of Istanbul, Kadırga. He began his primary education at Kadırga Primary School. He spent his childhood in Hagia Sophia and Sultanahmet. Thanks to his father, a tradesman in Gedikpaşa, he got to know the working life at an early age. He spent all his holidays in Grand Bazaar until he graduated from university. He grew up among people from different nationalities, traditions, and religions. He received his university education at Uludağ University. He studied at the Faculty of Economics. After graduation, he started working in the private sector. In 2009, after working in various sectors, he switched to the publishing sector. He was awarded the 2010 Oğuz Atay Novel Award for his novel Düş Kesiği and the 2011 Writers' Union of Turkey Novel Award for his novel Kış Bahçesi. In 2014, he won the Necip Fazıl Story Award with his books Deli Gömleği and Hiçbir şey Anlatmayan Hikâyelerin İkincisi. In 2018, he was selected as the literary writer of the year at the 14th Kristal Lale Awards.
