Social Sciences University of Ankara (SSUA) Department of History, in collaboration with the Historians Association, organized a roundtable discussion titled “Military History Studies: Ottoman Land Wars” on May 9-10, 2025. The workshop, held at ASBU's Fuat Sezgin Hall, was organized by Research Assistant Dr. Göksel Baş from our university's Department of History.

SSUA Department of Turkish Language and Literature concluded its 2024-2025 academic year activities with the final event of the year, the Living with Words and Writing Student Symposium. At the third student symposium, SSUA Turkish Language and Literature 4th-year students presented their papers in sessions on Classical Turkish Literature, Turkish Folk Literature, and Modern Turkish Literature. The event was also attended by our university's rector, Prof. Dr. Musa Kazım Arıcan.

SSUA History Department's 2025 graduating class gathered at a student symposium where they presented their graduation theses. The event, which featured contributions from a total of 13 students, allowed students to share their research and receive academic feedback. The symposium concluded with evaluations from academic advisors.

Our Faculty of History Department Faculty Member and Department Chair Prof. Dr. Selim Ferruh Adalı gave a seminar titled “When Worlds Collide: The Eurasian Steppe Nomads in Ancient Near Eastern Sources” at Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg. The seminar addressed issues concerning the Cimmerians and Scythians, who were described as invading tribes in Neo-Assyrian and Ancient Greek sources.

The 2024-2025 Academic Year Graduation Ceremony was held on June 16, 2025. Faculty Valedictorian Psychologist Meryem Kalyun, Acting Dean Prof. Dr. Selim Ferruh Adalı, and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Hakan Türkçapar each gave a speech. Afterwards, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Hakan Türkçapar and Acting Dean Prof. Dr. Selim Ferruh Adalı presented the plaque and certificate of achievement to the Faculty Valedictorian, Psychologist Meryem Kalyun. Psychologist Meryem Kalyun then signed the graduation register.

The new book co-authored by Prof. Dr. Selim Ferruh ADALI, faculty member and department chair of the History Department at our faculty, and Prof. Hyun Jin Kim, titled “The Origins of Complex Political Organisation in Ancient Inner Asia East Eurasia, Cimmerians and Scythians,” has been published by Routledge.

Our Faculty's Department of Turkish Language and Literature, Faruk Gün, a faculty member of the Turkish Folk Literature Department, has been awarded the title of “Associate Professor” by the Inter-University Council (ÜAK) in accordance with the relevant articles of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 and the Associate Professor Regulations, effective from June 27, 2025. We congratulate our professor and wish him continued success.

The book titled “Ser-güzeşt-i Raʿna vü Zîba,” co-authored by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nagihan Gür from our Faculty of Turkish Language and Literature and Prof. Dr. Fatma Sabiha Kutlar Oğuz, have been published.
