 Prof. Selim Ferruh Adalı, member of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Department of History, participated in the conference organized by the International Assyriological Association (IAA). These annual conferences are held since the 1950s and are the meeting place for Assyriologists from around the world. The 69th conference organized this year was held in Helsinki with Helsinki University, Faculty of Arts, as the host. Prof.

Professor Dr. José Javier Ruiz Ibáñez visited the History Department of our Faculty

Prof. Dr. José Javier Ruiz Ibáñez, from University of Murcia, Department of History, has visited our University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of History. Topics like a critical appraisal of 16th century historiography and comparisons of ancient cultures were among the topics discussed. Assistant Professor Emine Sökmen Adalı, from ASBÜ Department of Anthropology, has accompanied this visit and shared her knowledge on the ancient history of Ankara. 

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nagihan Gür's article entitled "Bir Hikâye Birden Çok Anlatı: Nigârîn’in Hikâyesinin Yüzyıllara Yayılmış Serüveni" was recently published.

The students of the Department of History of our faculty organized a field trip with Assist. Prof. Dr. Emine Sökmen Adalı to the Archeopark Area

As part of the HIST360 History and Culture of Ankara course, a field trip was organized to the archaeopark area reflecting the multi-layeredness of Ankara. The remains of the Ottoman period bath structure, debbağ workshops and road routes were examined. The theater building, which is an important symbol of Ankara's Roman cultural life, was visited and discussed in the context of the spatial organization of the city within the scope of the course.

ASBU Turkish Language and Literature Department, will start to admit students with English curriculum in the new academic year

ASBU Department of Turkish Language and Literature will start accepting students with a 30% English curriculum as of the 2023-2024 academic year. With this decision, which is part of the internationalization mission of our university and the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, our students will have the opportunity to have a bilingual education and thus complete their university education with Turkish and English content both in their own fields and in different disciplines.

ASBU Young Writers Community visited the Museum of Anatolian Civilisations!

During the event held with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zehra Sema Demir, the young writers learned the importance and history of the museum in detail.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zehra Sema Demir's proficiency in history and archaeology provided great guidance to the young writers throughout the trip. In particular, her narration on the Orthostat of the Wall of Messengers, which is the subject of the Epic of Gilgamesh, enabled the young writers to gain a more comprehensive perspective on the history of humanity.

Asbü Young Writers Community Organised Editorial and Proofreading Training Seminar

ASBU Young Writers Community organized an Editorial and Proofreading Training Seminar at the end of the Editorial and Proofreading Education Seminar.

Editorial and Proofreading Training Seminars took place on 06.06.23 in Sümerbank Chamber.

The seminar started with the opening speech of their supervisor Prof. Dr. Münire Kevser Baş. Publication editors from Bilgi Sarmal Publications and teachers from the Board of Education gave speeches and then answered their questions. 

Tahsin Emre Acar, a student of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature of our faculty, received the "Russian Government Scholarship"

 

Tahsin Emre Acar, ASBU Turkish Language, and Literature double major student, received the "Russian Government Scholarship". Under the scholarship, Acar will study for a master's degree in "Oriental and African Studies" in Russia in the 2023-2024 academic year. We congratulate him and wish him continued success.

Assistant Prof. Emine Sökmen Adalı's Two New Articles

 

Faculty Member from the Department of Anthropology, Asst. Prof. Emine Sökmen Adalı's two articles;

"Ankyra Rome and the Temple of Augustus in the Political Landscape as an Imperial Image" in the Journal of Spatial Planning and Design and also ''Ankara Augustus Temple in Late Ottoman Period Official Correspondence'' was published in the Journal of Archaeology and Art.

"Öldüğünde Geriye Yalnızca Kelimeler Bırakmak İsteyen İnce ve Zarif Bir Adam" Güray Süngü was our guest

 

Author Güray Süngü was the guest of our Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Münire Kevser Baş's "Yakın Dönem Türk Edebiyatı II" course on Wednesday, 31 May. A pleasant conversation was held on the author's novel Düş Kesiği, which was awarded the Oğuz Atay award in 2010. Responding to the students' questions about post-modern literature, Süngü made evaluations on the intellectual/philosophical roots, characteristics and future of post-modern literature.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selim Ferruh Adalı at Heidelberg University Materialle Textkulturen (Material Text Cultures) Project

 

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selim Ferruh Adalı held presentations and seminars at Heidelberg University on 24-28 April 2023 under the long-term German social science project SFB933 Materialle Textkulturen (Material Text Cultures) and exchanged views on how the archival work is carried out as a part of the Istanbul Sippar Project.

Assoc. Prof. Selim Ferruh Adalı presented "Towards the Neo-Assyrian Mental Map? The Anatolian Aspect" at the hybrid conference titled Integrated Approaches to the Political Geography of Southern Anatolia 1650-550 BCE, organised by Bilkent University Archaeology Department on 4-6 May.
